Dance For Children

The child enters the exciting world of dance through creative exploration and the introduction to correct body mechanics in classes such as Creative Movement, Introduction to Dance, and Pre-Ballet. Older youth build their skills and versatility through increasing technical and creative challenges.

Pre-Professional Ballet

In 1997, Arts In Motion began a Pre-Professional Ballet program to train serious dancers interested in doing advanced work. The program is based on the Vaganova Syllabus, the graded Classical Russian Ballet pedagogical method developed by Russian professor and dancer Agrippina Vaganova. This method has produced some of the world's greatest ballet dancers. Our students have mounted original productions of Sleeping Beauty and The Windham Nutcracker in addition to developing and performing many individual pieces. Graduates of the pre-professional ballet program have been accepted at both the highly competitive Nutmeg Ballet and Boston Ballet programs.

"From the first dance class to the first pair of pointe shoes is a long journey. At Arts In Motion we try to foster a love of dance while we instill the technique necessary to eventually do advanced work. In addition, we try to honor the pace of a child's development by not making inappropriate physical or cognitive demands. Building a healthy dancertakes many years."
- Ballet program Artistic Director Lynn Castelli

Youth Ensemble

The Ensemble was formed in January 2002, by Artistic Director/Choreographer, Alana Mahdalik Pilcher and has already performed in public approximately 20 times including art festivals, camps and special events throughout the area. The participants of this Jazz/Modern dance performing group contribute to the creation of original dance pieces which they perform at AIM functions and community events. The dancers in this group range in age from 8 – 16 years old and the all study at least one dance style including ballet, jazz/modern, and hip-hop.
