Creative Dramatics (Ages 4-6) : This
class will use storytelling to introduce students to basic acting
skills. Children will explore movement, character, & speech.

Acting Explorers (Ages 7-9): This
class will build on the skills students have learned in Acting
Adventures. We will study acting using different theatre
games and skits. Students will explore characters, movement,

Acting Performers (Ages 7-9): This
class will build on the skills students have learned in Acting
Adventures & Explorers. The students will develop their
own play and be introduced to all elements of theatre as they create

Acting Level 2 (Ages 10-15): An
animated and fun-filled beginning for young students, this class
delves into movement, focus, staging, improvisation, and builds
self-assurance through games and exercises. Students also learn
self-awareness, teamwork, and the merits of intelligent risk-taking
and quick thinking. This class is for students who completed Acting
Level 1 or new students with permission of instructor. 15
weeks: Mondays 5:30 - 7:00PM, 1/17 – 5/9. No class 3/14, 4/18

Performance Opportunities
5.
Winter Tales: Students will be introduced
to all aspects of theatre in this unique performance workshop.
Students will be able to explore writing, acting, set design
and props while creating their own production. The theme
of this workshop is tales from around the world. Students
will also have the opportunity to participate in a workshop with
NYC storyteller Getchie Argetsinger. 9 weeks: Thursdays
6:00 - 7:30pm 1/20 - 3/19. There will be an expanded rehearsal schedule
during the week before the performance. $130.50 or Payment

Spring Shorts- Ages 10 & up:
Students will welcome Spring with this unique performance opportunity.
Students who particpated in Winter Tales will have the opportunity
to develop different skills and new students will be introduced
to the basics of acting and performance. 7
weeks: Thursdays 6:00 - 7:30PM 3/31 -5/20. There will
be an expanded rehearsal schedule during the week before the performance.

storyteller, Getchie Argetsinger will lead a workshop to introduce
students to the art of storytelling. This workshop is for
any student performer who wants to expand their acting and storytelling
skills. This workshop is highly recommended for all students
participating in Winter Tales. $10 for students in Winter Tales,
$25 for all other students.

#4 Voice Auditions
When:
Sunday, February 6, 2-5 p.m.
Instructor:
Melissa Cannon
This
workshop will focus on how to prepare vocally for a music audition.
Students should be prepared to sing a sixteen bar song of
their choice and Melissa will accompany. (Please bring the
music with you, but it does not have to be memorized) It is strongly
encouraged that everyone sing, but is not required. We will
be critiquing each other in a friendly, constructive atmosphere,
discussing relaxation methods, healthy singing, and focal points.
Students are encouraged to bring along tape recorders, notebook
paper, or any other method of recording. We will also learn
part of a song from “Anything Goes” and study the style of music
for that time period.

#5 Acting Auditions

This
workshop will introduce students to auditioning basics. New
York actress Getchie Argetsinger will share her experience and advice
while providing students an opportunity to practice different types
of auditioning styles including cold readings and monologues.
Getchie's goal is to give you some specific tools, which are easy
to access so that you can audition with confidence and have fun.

A cast of actors...on stage...in
front of an audience...and no one's learned one single line!
“Actor's Nightmare”? No Way! Improvise your way to a great, unique,
spontaneous performance. All of the skills an actor needs
can be learned and honed through practicing improvisation—and you'll
be having so much fun you won't even realize you're learning
a thing. This workshop will focus on ensemble-building theatre
games and the improvisational games of Viola Spolin, and will
culminate with practicing games for performance—just like they do
on “Whose Line is it Anyway?”!
Creative Dance for Little Ones

Creative Movement-Ages 4-5 : For the beginning dancer
or those with one year experience. Children will be introduced
to basic dance skills and will explore movement and coordination
of their bodies through music, rhythm, poems/stories, and props.

Jazz/Modern III-Ages 11 & up: This class will

advanced level. Dancers enrolling should have 2 years experience
or by teacher permission if age appropriate. Creativity will

placed on expressing oneself with the whole body. Specific
historical styles of dance associated with modern dance pioneers

Tap Dance I-Ages 6-9 : This class will teach basic

Tap Dance II/III-Ages 10-16 : For students with
tap training or by teacher permission. This intermediate
level class will review basic tap vocabulary and style and continue
to build to more advanced progressions and technical combinations

Arts in Motion Youth Performance Ensemble I-Ages 8-12:
Open to members of the Youth Ensemble or interested new members.
This is a jazz and modern dance performing group where students
contribute to the creation of original dance pieces to be performed
for AIM related functions or in the community on occasion.
Students must also take at least one technique class per week.
Next audition will be held September 2005 for new members.

Open to members of the Youth Ensemble with advancing technique or

Choreography/Improvisation-Ages 9 & up: Working
individually and in groups, the class will focus on spatial awareness,
expanding movement vocabulary and choreographic techniques.
Creativity will be encouraged through structured improvisations.
This class will present a finished project in the Spring
Dance Exchange. Students interested in theatre are encouraged
to join. Previous dance experience is helpful but not required.
This class will not count as a technique class for Youth

A more intensive class for students who have been studying Highland

Bellydance - Teens/Adults: Discover
the art of Middle Eastern Dance! This course will introduce students
to the ancient and beautiful steps and movements of bellydancing.
Wear comfortable clothes, soft-soled shoes, or dance in bare
feet, and bring a scarf to tie around your hips. This course
is appropriate for new and returning students. Session

Introduction to African Dance and its Diaspora-Teens/Adults: This
class will introduce students to movement styles found in West African
dance traditions from Guinea, Mali, and Senegal to its diaspora
throughout the Americas including Brazil, Haiti, and Cuba (ultimately
leading to Jazz and Hip-Hop!). We will explore specific technique
as well as cultural context and the concepts of community participation
and improvisation. Come ready to be inspired to move, groove to
the music, and have fun...! No previous dance experience necessary.

A regular practice of Yoga can reduce feelings of tension

Techniques-Adults/Teens :
Emphasizing the joy of experiencing movement, this class incorporates
the Feldenkrais method, which uses small, gentle movements to gain
an awareness of how one body part moves in relation to another.
Benefits of class are flexibility, connectivity and improving upon
posture. Bare feet. If desired, bring a towel or mat
to class for added comfort in floor work. 17 Mondays,

A basic
class in ballet technique, covering elementary barre, center floor,
and allegro work. Emphasis on placement, strength and control

Pre-Professional Ballet
The
Arts in Motion Pre-Professional Ballet Program is the only one of
its kind in Eastern Connecticut. It is a year-round training program
that allows serious students to study ballet intensively and to
progress through the first four years of the Vaganova 8-year graded
syllabus, a curriculum that has produced some of the world's most
renowned ballet dancers. Graduates of AIM's pre-professional
ballet program have been selected to attend highly competitive summer
intensives at Nutmeg Ballet and Boston Ballet.
Attire:

entry under “Ballet.” Long hair must be in a bun, no attire except
leotard, tights (or t-shirt and bike shorts if male) and slippers.

First Year- Ages 9 & up or by permission: This
class will offer dancers who dream of performing advanced work the
opportunity to develop the strength, stamina and flexibility to
pursue it. Work covered in the first year of the Vaganova syllabus
will be offered. 1st year goals are elementary exercises for the
mastery of the basic stance, position of the feet, arms, and head
used in Russian classical dance. Two classes a week
are required. 19 weeks: Tuesdays & Thursdays,
4:15-5:15 PM, 1/18 - 6/2 No class 4/19 or 4/21. Lynn

Second Year - Ages 10 & Up: The
material in the second year of the Vaganova syllabus will be covered.
Pointe work will be individualized. 2nd year goals are the development
of basic russian classical vocabulary in greater quanitity and at
a faster tempo. The development of strength of the foot and
instep by means of alternating movements of the whole foot and on
demi-pointe. Two classes per week are required. Beginning pointe
will be added on Thursdays by permission of instructor only.
The decision will be made by the instructor with the dancer's safety
as first priority. Criteria for qualifying for pointe will
include a minium of ten years of age, consistent, timely class attendance,
and sufficient strength. Please consult instructor prior
to purchasing pointe shoes. 19 weeks: Tuesdays &
Thursdays, 5:15-6:45 PM, 1/18 - 6/2. No class 4/19

Third Year - Ages 10 & Up: Students
will study the third Year of the Vaganova syllabus. 3rd year goals
are the beginning of the study of center floor exercises on demi-pointe,
the elementary study of turns and tours sur le cou de pied, as well
as batterie (small jumps with beats).

Pointe and Variations - Ages 10 & Up: For

Including a warm-up at the barre, this class will focus on learning
modified classical variations from Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and
Raymonda as well as original variations en pointe and demi-pointe.
10 Saturdays: 5:30 - 7:00p.m. 1/22-3/26. Please note that
class may be rescheduled due to performance conflicts. Samantha
